and secretly cross out all OQ's events!

But you are right, and I didn't get much joy out of OSA either when I suggested that our events be cancelled sooner rather than later. I expect the states are waiting for OA to take the lead on this, but since OA is following the federal sports minister's advice, unfortunately it doesn't look like we're going to make like BOF and cancel all events just yet (mind you, BOF were a bit slow on the uptake too).

Our president (retired GP) just says 'everyone participates at their own risk'.

Hmm...what about "at other people's risk"?

I did make that point. If events are on people will turn up, whether through ignorance, boredom or fomo. Not cancelling also puts an unfair expectation on organisers to go ahead with putting on an event they volunteered for months before this all started.
The debate is also chewing up a lot of time and effort for people who have much bigger things to worry about at the moment.

My club's organising an event next weekend and still debating cancellation, so I haven't been game to ask for volunteers yet! Also this situation causes a moral dilemma for those of us who would like to go orienteering but aren't convinced that it's the socially responsible thing to do...

Susanne told me that the indigenous ranger training she was doing at Jabiru (her current natural resource management project covers West Arnhem Land) was cut short because the authorities are trying to protect the communities from outsider contagion. Meanwhile, Lachlan has already decided to take the kids out of school/childcare from next week.

My AP log is the closest I'm going to get to an O event for a while.
If you do want your event to go ahead - pre entry and pre payment only. members only - no new people that need instruction. maps left in packets for people to self start (maybe one person observing to record who goes out). one person at the computer doing download, with the si at max reach. no splits, results etc.

Or put it on maprun and let people print their own map. our nightnav series (which was all on maprun anyway, has now cancelled the tuesday event part. the map is available for download and if you want to participate you have from friday night until tuesday night to run.

The isolation of communities in the nt is a worry. Pete says the road to wadeye is about to re-open and although anyone coming back in is meant to self isolate there is no one to enforce it, not that its even possible in their crappy overcrowded houses.

And I'm still planner for a sprint race in a week that's still going ahead ... No board discussions about local event cancellations down here apparently, just mitigations.

I think your event may fall into the category of a 'non-essential service'.

Yep, I think this announcement is the end of my event and I reckon we'll all be at home from Tue.
