Was very cool to hear you took a scalp in the video call at the table next to me in a Maryland diner after the Stumble. Happy to see you've recovered enough for that.
Well, Julia is certainly a legit scalp -- USA Middle champ, Billygoat winner, standout performance at JWOC with a top-ten in the Middle qualifier to easily make the A final. But the old man certainly had the home court advantage -- orienteered at Wachusett several times plus a zillion times in the forests of New England.
Though I am aware of the possibly that Julia didn't produce her best on purpose, perhaps feeling sorry for the old man as she trotted by him on the way to #3, having already closed the minute and a half difference in start times (and he hadn't missed at all).
But still, a scalp is a scalp is a scalp. :-)
And glad to be back thinking about such things.
