Discussion: Tala fyra

I'm just hoping to get passable by next summer when I visit the town where my great-grandfather was born.

What town is that?

Högbo, north of Sandviken.

Högbo is reasonably close to where I live. Would be nice to meet up if that fits our respective plans while you are in Sweden.

I sort of know the place because the downloadable demo data of Lantmäteriet's non-open LiDAR dataset happens to be from Högbo.

I have fond memories of the O' mat at Högbo Bruk. I never went there, but I did a lot of practice course setting on the map. I had a stack of maybe 30-40 copies of the map that I got back in the pre-internet days when, if you wanted to see maps you had to find someone and trade for them. An acquaintance from OK Hammaren had set courses for a race there and had left over maps.

That story reminds me how I back in late 80's I got from somewhere - can't remember how an where - a map with courses. Neat map with courses and terrain was something not quite what we have here in Finland. I had it on my wall for quite some time, couple of years at least. the map had courses and winner's names (utterly unknown to me), but not their routes. There was plenty of legs I had no idea how to run them, straight or around or something in between, and I changed my mind several times during the years. Back then there was no internet so correct route choices remained mystery to me. I can still remember the name of the map, it was Cuivre River.

Now when I google that I can find the map. Those utterly unknown winners seem to be Mikell Platt and Peggy Dickison and map was from Orienteering North America Vol. 4 No. 04 May 1988, internet version seems to also have bw map with routes so now I finally know!
