Looked and sounded like a fun one. A bit jealous of those who got to run it, so also looking forward to next year.
I was wondering about having Anton starting in the middle of the field like that. In my book, and interpretation of the rules, he should be starting first, before any potential Irish champion.
Something for the Squad to feed back to the organisers?
I think that there are IOC start list criteria? But don't know why Anton was put in the midst of things.
Hope there's a SHI/VHI here soon so that I run there again.
I actually emailed them earlier re: this, don't think it's ideal having ineligible athletes in the middle of the start block. I think Shane was a worthy winner in this case (and got less benefit than Marcus probably did from having me!), but there could easily be future cases where it has more decisive impacts, so worth bringing up to be discussed & fixed.
At the moment the rules say:
"Overseas competitors should be slotted into the starting order based on their IOF Ranking. Un-ranked Irish and Overseas competitors shall be placed at the beginning of the starting order with their starting order determined by random ballot."
This isn't very clear - what is an overseas athlete? Are they Irish living abroad or ineligible? I brought this up.
We will need to arrange an opportunity to further discuss this issue I expect.
Solid work Marcus - looked to be an epic race! Man, 25 years sure flies... Bravo on still being at the top of the game!
