cookies, noodles, more cookies, and free brake adjustment?? What an event! Where were all of these when I raced WT? Oh wait, I remember you and Goose trying to tempt my team with hot soup. Phatty so wanted to stop for a quick bowl but I wouldn't let him. "C'mon, Mike, just 20 minutes, this looks too good to pass up. Just 20 minutes? Please?"
...I think we won by 18?...
A stick in the eye that tore his contact lens!?! Yikes!!
When in doubt, have another cookie.
Seems like the team took a good approach to the race. Too bad someone had to get sick in spite of it.
Yeah, having Heather out put a damper on a fun race. I would race again with any or all of them. This was how we used to race as the Tree Huggers- steady motion but taking care to get dry, warm and fed.
Big contrast to the time I was on a podium team lying on the ground ill in a fetal position in the middle of the night. and and Alex gently said “Rich, there’s no time for that”.
We would not have got to the end of the canoe without Heather so it’s too bad she had to pull out. It seems wrong to still be ranked in 3-person male category to be honest because the three guys would not have got through it without her organization, team work, eating reminders, fun stories, and amazing spirit.
I've no regrets pulling out, I got a trek, bike and paddle with the team (why can't ARs be more like triathlons anyways! ;)).... the trek would have been a barfarama and I would have missed lounging on a cot by a parking lot campfire. I won't make a habit of dropping out on teamates though, I promise!
Congrats! Sorry you didn't all make it to the finish together but it sounds like you worked well together, chose good routes, stayed well organized and kept a sensible pace. I'm proud of every one of you!
Great seeing you out there! It's always a highlight when teams come through a CP we know and cheer for even more.
I hear Amber thought I wasn't well as I lay down. Little does she know my need/ability to grab a powernap whenever possible, and it was working for me. So great to be able to stop and say Hi to you guys rather than just blast through. Thanks for being there.
Your team was the "Steady Eddie" when I was following, consistently making good progress, just hanging onto the back-end of the front pack. Well done!
That was the plan. Losing Browner to illness was not on the plan however. :(
Congrats!!!! Sounds like everyone found the sweet spot between competition and just the friggin' fun and challenge of being out there! Nice!!!
It was Eco who mentioned that Hammer seemed fine while you lay down at the CP. We both assumed it meant you didn't feel well since we didn't understand your team was allowing naps this year!
