The Norwegians are having a training camp in Latvia right now. Siri is very good about posting her maps and routes and she's solid, so I think they'll be worth studying!

Here's yesterday's middle:

Wow, very different! Thanks for posting! Much more vegetation-reading technical than rocky-technical.

From what I understand, Latvia is basically almost exactly like some of the short grass prairie areas on some of our Laramie maps, except that Latvia is more open and faster, with less sage brush.

Less sage? Their loss.

I ran the European champs in Lativa in 2008 (?) and went there once in advance to train for it. I almost always liked the terrain; it's usually interesting although being green a lot of the time. Kind of makes me wish I was running in Lavia this summer (good memories, made the final in the middle there)...

Looks like Fair Hill.

Awesome, thanks for that link, Sandra! Totally need to absorb Latvian maps. The green has me a bit nervous as I know that the low visibility can make it much more tricky and it'll be hard for me to find relevant training for that...

It may be worth comparing notes with Eric and Will about some of the more "runnable" PNW maps, since most white woods will be lower vis than back east. The ones around Cle Elum/Salmon la Sac may not be bad, and what gets mapped as white is so often thicker. On the other side of the mountains, perhaps Lord Hill and Fire Mountain, and maybe the Whidbey Island maps (Ft. Ebey) might be useful. Riley Culberg may also have some thoughts on middle training on PNW maps.

GVOC is holding an event 7-8 July (S/S/M/L) in Vancouver's Mundy Park.
No idea what that's like for vegetation, and certainly a long drive for you, but you have plenty of friends who live up that way. ;-)

For green training last years woc I oddly had found all my nighto trining very useful! But bloody hated the green the marshes just yeah wasn’t as fun as I thought a WOC should be. So hopefully being more south this year it is more open and runable for you.
