Testing the unit today, it seems fine. It has one of the freshest batteries in the BF fleet and works OK with a variety of sticks.

We'll use it reprogrammed as a check unit this weekend and see if its OK.

It took me three attempts to get it to register allowing Ewan to catch me up after his dodgy route choice from 9.

Yep, I thought it was the one with the quiet beep, but its not - what stick were you using ?

Shingo:
My SI 8 stick, nothing fancy.

The rebadged 217 was silent (or very quiet) at Snows Hill. Maybe it’s my ‘90s concert industrial deafness kicking in.

THANK YOU Milo for reviving this thread. We in the rest of the world have been anxiously awaiting the next installment of Orienteering Australia's equivalent of a Miss Fisher mystery, "The Curious Case of Unit 217".
Tune in next week to find out "How will Unit 217 respond when slapped by an SI 10?"

Shingo:
And do we exclude the rebadged unit 217 from our event on Sunday?
Jan 3, 2018 3:53 AM #
tRicky:
I thought orienteering was an inclusive sport where we encourage everyone to participate regardless of abilities.

The rebadged 217 has always been quiet (think its is 24), I'll replace the beeper one day.

Is 220 completely dead ?

Are you (a) in possession of the units and if so
(b) happy to reset the time for the start and (rebadged) finish units ?

I can reprogram stuff on Saturday.

I have all the SI gear. Will bring it round on Saturday if not beforehand.

Do you need Dr Blake to check their pulse?

I've never figured out who/how/why people see the race-related comment threads on AP. I seem to just see the races that I say I'm going to (I think, too lazy to check), but in WA you see them all.

Anyway, painful reminder, the Dr Blake beer glass got smashed in November, so I'm almost down to drinking beer from the massive collection of French plastiques.

Everything appears under events discussion for me, regardless of whether or not I've indicated an interest in it. There is an option to filter these (all events/your sports/events near you/your calendar) but it'd be a pretty empty section if it only listed discussion for my races.

Our six French plastiques are still going strong but not for drinking beer from. Of course this is a 2016 O’France event discussion now.

We brought our O-France plastiques to the 5 Days!

We are going to O-France 2018 version, anyone else planning to go?

Discussions still WIP; currently three in favour but need a unanimous decision.

Fin 5 ? Could maybe swing that with a moomin fan voting my way.

I can't recall beer at the Fin 5 finish.

Shingo:
Fin 5 day off the list then!

I am filling the car with Alsace wine....

Back on topic, I disassembled #217 only to remember that I had swapped it with #247.

I'm getting pretty quick at taking these things apart.

Putting them back together is harder...

Shingo:
Wasn't the original 217 the one that gave problems at BFS whereas the rebranded 217 (previously known as 247) the silent one at Snows Hills? Or am I totally confused?

Ooh this is getting exciting :)

Also will be heading to Loire and parts of the Rhine so think wine while in Europe this year will be covered :-)

OK, 247 (probably previously 217, although that could be 249) has a new beeper, which sounded different AND loud when I first mounted it, but with the case on sounds disappointingly normal.
