I'd like to get new pedals for my mountain bike for AR. Do you have any suggestions? I'd like some that are decent at shedding mud. That's really the only requirement :)

Hmmmm. All of my pedals are Shimano XT spd's now. The M520's are a bit cheaper (but good) version. I use them for all the different types of biking that I do (cyclocross, mtn, and gravel) because they're a really good all-around pedal. I don't typically have any issues with mud unless it's super thick. I used to use the Shimano PD-M324's on my mtn bike for AR. They are flats on one side and spd's on the other. The thinking behind that was for a super short biking section I could just keep my running shoes on, then still have the clip-ins for regular biking sections. They're a bit heavier pedals though. I know some people really like the Crank Brother's style of pedal and claim they are best for shedding mud. Although, I think that they may not be great for long distance pedaling because they don't have any kind of "platform" to help distribute weight.

As with most things, I think personal preference and a little "trial and error" is what it comes down to. In my experience, considering all of the different types of off-road biking I do, the Shimano XT, XTR, or the M520's are what works best for me :)

Thanks for your insight! I was leaning toward Shimano's. That's what we use now and I've only had problems with mud once.
