A big thank you to Ottawa Orienteering and Montreal Ramblers for a fantastic week of orienteering in Montreal, Ottawa and Perth. Thoroughly enjoyed the orienteering and the week of catching up with friends from near and far.

Agreed. We had a really great time at the races around Perth! Excellent terrain, great courses, fun arena atmosphere, and good friends: all you can ask for. We'd come back in a second!

The Canadians has been a staple on my calendar for a while because the terrain selection has been excellent, the event atmosphere stimulating, and the social scene comprehensive. This event was fantastic, and I am looking forward to Yukon. Thanks to the organizers for a wonderful weekend!

Couldn't agree more. The socializing was incredible - from bumping into the Wadd Squad + Mila in downtown Ottawa, visiting non-orienteering friends, dropping in on locals for a shower and cup of tea plus all the arena and banquetting and silent auctioning. So nice to hang out all week with such good friends.

The schedule was great - loved the weird RetrO, the Sprint. And ending with the Relay was the perfect way to cap off the weekend with a fast run through the nicest terrain (with 100% reuse of long/middle controls).

And kinda nice that the weather was rather perfect

See you in the Yukon!

PS: Super interesting stats:
For me, the Festival gave me a ton of great orienteering:
124 controls, 7:22:44 total orienteering time.
(( 0:58:55 was miserable time-lost due to those things that you lose time to (... other than running slowly ;-)

+1!!

I only attended the Foley Mountain events, but...

I was super impressed with the map/terrain, particularly the clinical and creative course setting within it.

To be able to host 2 national championship events within an area of less than 3 sq. km is a feat in itself. But for those courses to be physically/technically demanding and not redundant?...I feel that's what made this COC's truly special.

It seemed like a very resourceful use of a club's map assets, which I think is an important lesson learned for clubs when gauging an appropriate venue for any larger O meet.

With that said, I'd love to see more 2 to 4 sq. km maps made not only within the Frontenac Arch Biosphere, but along similar latitudes from Peterborough to Ottawa. It's obvious that there is some spectacular O-terrain along the southern reaches of the Canadian Shield in eastern Ontario.

Thanks OOC for a memorable COC's!! (My first in almost 20 years.)

Thank you for a wonderful 10 days full of great orienteering! I asked the juniors that I took to the races which was their favourite on the drive home. They told me that the sprint was really fun and it was cool to finish in the glass building. But it was also super cool to try out the old style map on the Retr-O. It was such an epic adventure despite the nettles. And and the Easterns were fun and tricky because you thought you could run fast but then it was hard to find the trails. But then the COCs were awesome because they were so challenging but super fun and the arena was good. And having a chance to run on a relay team with Emily Kemp was amazing and super stressful and amazing at the same time but mostly amazing and basically that it was impossible to decide which was the best!

First time O-Fest / COC participant here, really enjoyed all of the events! Everything was so incredibly well organized and thought through -- I can't begin to imagine all the hours of work that goes into a huge, multi-day event like this. Big thank you to the organizers and all the volunteers!
