I think that's where it is - the map was somewhere not too far to the south of where the Hamilton-Raglan road crosses the range.

M21: 7.2km, 850m climb, winning time something like 2.19. I was very glad to be an M16.

I've found a copy (digital) of the O map, and spent half an hour trying to match it up against the topo map - how cool is it that you can find online the whole of NZ and zoom in to the level of individual farmhouses, bridges and 20-metre contours? - and I'm sure I've got the right ridgeline/plateau but can't find a spot where the tracks and vegetation match up. Mind you, the forestry activities over the last 30 years could have changed these.

I was W21 then... Had a late start. Was wondering why most people walked up the long hilly finish ..was gale force winds to add to the rain. In the bush I got sore arms swinging thru the trees as mud was so loose.
