Just wondering what Mr. Misery Sticks told the newbie to do? Skate or Classic? Either way - you have plenty of expertise to pass on now besides "take the f'ing thins off and just run". I'm so proud of you:)

That quote reminds me of FB at a Winter Salomon Adventure Challenge where he brought the mandatory gear for the XC section (eg. Skis) but just carried them over his shoulder and ran in his trail shoes. Gold!
