After some years, orienteering is returning to Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, originally mapped as part of a US Olympic Committee grant two decades ago. It's wonderful terrain, and large, so it's great to be back.
The event will be a goat. Permit just received.
Awesome! I wish I could make it.
August 13.
When I saw your thread, I was hoping that it would tie in a couple daze before or after Laramie Daze. Glad to hear that you got a permit; I would love to get back to that area, but its probably not practical to make a second trip out.
It'll probably be of most interest to local orienteers, but if anyone else is in the area, feel free to join us.
Any chance RMOC could put their other events on AP calendar, please?
OK, I've entered the upcoming RMOC events in AttackPoint, some with dates still tentative as indicated. Our schedule is on our
rmoc.org web site.
What time is the start? I'm currently scheduled to fly over Colorado the night before, and am thinking to stop for the day instead (getting home Sat. PM instead... ;)
10am mass start. Arrive about 9am to park, buy or show a park pass, change, use toilets, fill water bottle, etc., before a one kilometer mass walk to the start at 9:30am. Course closes at 1pm or when thunder threatens. The Goat is three loops of 5km each (do one, two or all three loops). One skip per loop. One 1.75km route choice leg per loop. Flowers still out today when I finished the map updates.
I'm teaching on Friday but looking at the possibility of flying into DEN Friday evening. Anybody else arriving Fri evening interested in sharing a car and or hotel?
I'm flying in Friday evening and out early Sunday morning. Rental cars are expensive. I've got some leads on lodging, and sharing the car would make that more workable.
That's a possibility JJ. Let's continue by email. I'm out of the country at the moment and need to get a better Internet connection to figure out what flights are possible for me. Looks like maybe a nonstop arriving at 8 something but I'm hoping to find one that I could make a bit earlier.
* Online registration is now live:

* Registered Runners:

Please note that pre-registration and pre-payment are required, due to NPS permit restrictions. We will not be offering onsite, day-of entry.
I have also just added more of Jim's special notes on the meet details page:

Something's not working. I can enter all of my information, but there's nowhere to select a course, and when I get to the payment page, it says I don't owe anything and I don't show up as a registered runner. I assume I missed something, but I'm not seeing it.
Strange... It's set to "live" in the admin screen, and it worked for me just now when I registered Troy. Are you using some obscure browser...? ;-)
I just received an email confirmation for you (and a few other people), so it seems to be working now. Gremlins purged. Yay!
OK, I'm positive that the race selection and number of Goat loops weren't there when I did this before, but I tried it again and they were this time, so now I'm all set.
JJ's not crazy. Even with Chrome, the gremlins just let me register for free, for now courses - when I went in via the link from the AP event page.
I tried again from the OUSA page, and then I got to proper course selection, and paid the $14. About 1/7th of what my current rental car is costing...
What's your flight schedule, Wyatt? I'm working out travel possibilities, with my $175 car being something in trying to either avoid or share.
Thanks for letting me know, Wyatt. I just compared all the links (RMOC event page, AP discussion thread, AP event page, and OUSA Event Register page). There was a hidden linefeed character in the URL posted on the AP event page. Maybe that caused issues, if that's the one you clicked...? I fixed that link, but if anyone else has registration problems, please let me know and I'll follow up with Ed for advice.
Re: Renting car in DEN
A known trick is to use Chase Ultimate Rewards. Google details.
Right now it shows $50 total per day Hertz Economy 8/06-8/07
I wish I could go
41 people registered. Maps printed, controls and SI units packed for setting out in the morning.
Results and splits will be up after we review the data...the software doesn't seem to have explicit support for skips, so there's a bit of manual.
Top three finishers of three loops:
1. Wyatt Riley
2. Craig Murray
3. JP Lande
There was enough hail last night to leave white patches astride highway 24, and a little morning fog, but the weather during the event was sunny.
I've uploaded preliminary Attackpoint splits. (Jim and Doug are double-checking the OE2010 data, but I'm 99% certain these results are correct, with skipped controls accounted for.)
