Okay you bikers out there:

I'm shopping for a new bike, likely a 29er of some sorts. So far I've been looking at the Trek Fuel EX , Scott Genius and the Santa Cruz Tallboy 29. Will likely look at other models as well.

Does anyone have any feedback on either of those bikes? Likes/dislikes? Suspension feel? Climbing feel? Downhill feel? Twisty trail feel? Nimble/sluggish feeling?

My wife really likes her Trek Fuel. She doesn't like hills much, but as an observer climbed better with it than anything else she had ever ridden from day 1. She spent a full day trying bikes on a loop with a variety of terrain before picking it.
Suspension is really good. She likes how easy it is to lock it when she doesn't need/want it.
She doesn't do a lot of tight trail, but the bike does handle it well.
Can't comment on descents because she is naturally timid.
Her only complaint has been its water capacity. The frame design only supports a half size bottle in the triangle and a full under the frame which isn't especially easy to access. You might have to carry water on your back.

Thanks veinbuster! Is it a 29 inch Fuel she rides? I have a high end 26 inch Trek Fuel Ex from a few years back and love it.

I have a Trek Fuel EX8 26" that I retired once I got a Trek(Gary Fisher) Superfly 29". The carbon hardtail gives a much more powerful ride although not as comfy going down the railroad tracks. I still ride the EX8 once in a while but always love getting back on the Superfly.
