Your fame continues to spread From my 6th grade math contest:
In a triathlon competition, a 130-pound athlete burns calories at these rates:
• Swimming: 480 calories per hour
• Cycling: 420 calories per hour
• Running: 300 calories per hour
How many calories does Silky burn if she swims for 45 minutes, cycles for 1 hour and 40 minutes, and runs for 40 minutes?
:)
Silky is faster than that. Even at AR pace I bet she's 400Kcal/hr running.
oh I love inspiring little math minds! no idea on how many cal/hr my run pace is. for extra credit, please have them calculate how many Birthday Cake Oreos I need to eat to fuel this triathlon.
If I'd known of your Birthday Cake Oreo reputation, I WOULD have included it!
I got the data from some "random" source - did not verify! :)
I'll be curious about the Item Analysis. With calculators, it "should" be aneasy item but students tend to struggle converting minutes to decimal or fractional parts of hours. [Switching to calories per minute is easier in this case.]
~100 cal/mile regardless of speed/pace.
