Discussion: reentrant v. spur

I am embarrassed about that. When I selected the control point, I thought it was a reentrant. When I vetted the area, I couldn't match it to the map unless I interpreted the little oval to the SE of the control circle as a depression -- and I talked myself into thinking that it was (causing me to invert my interpretation of the reentrant). In hindsight, I should have abandoned the area as not being viable and tried another way to solve the setting problem.
I apologize if this caused any time loss.

Well, my main problem is an inability to see small things. I was pretty convinced a the time that the green reentrant on the north eastern part of the circle was the spur. Didn't realize it was a reentrant until looking at it the next day calmly in good light, so it appears the circle was centered on the saddle. Anyway, I was on entirely the wrong spur.

I did lose time, but mostly because I think I lose focus when I get tired. Earlier in the course I probably would have figured it out.

Back in the days before we had software to prevent such foolishness, I used the same location on two courses for an A-meet, but the circles were printed so that one was at the top of the reentrant, the other at the bottom. So I put the flag in the middle, and no one seemed to notice, or at least no one complained. Lucky break.
